Headstone search. Wm. Davidson & Agnes Mein.
« on: Thursday 11 August 11 07:35 BST (UK) »

Please - can anyone recognise the following headstone inscription and tell me which Churchyard it is in?

“William Davidson, late tenant of Cavers Carre died at Lilliesleaf 24 Oct. 1849 aged 64 years.
Agnes Mein his wife died 39 November 1883 aged 86. “

Thank you. jas1870

Thank you for your help - and to the others who replied. I noted the inscription when I was touring and forgot to note which (of many) Churchyards I had been in. I plan to come drive up to see it and look around the area.

She died 29 Nov 1882, not 39 Nov 1883.  ;D

But it must be a memorial stone rather than a gravestone, because (I believe) Agnes died in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, where -- again, I believe, from piecing together old correspondence -- she was living with their daughter Mary Davidson Dickie and her family. Agnes was a daughter of Andrew Mein and Agnes Fairgrieve of the Melrose/Newtown St. Boswell (Hawkslee) area.
