Needless to say, I cannot find John Gibbs, Painter on the 1841!
I'm not young enough to know everything.

As you have an exact date and place, you could contact the City of Westminster Archives and ask for their help as the online records aren't complete.

http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/libraries/archives/

They'll do you a copy from the parish register for £4 instead of the £9.25 the GRO charge.

The digitisation and transcriptions are still very much a work in progress. The same can be said for Ancestry & the LMA collection. That started going online in 2009 and is a long way from being completed.

Thanks Dawn - I have done this before a few times.  Very useful.

Yes that's them  I started a thread about William:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=679569.0

I have today sent for Henry's birth certificate (son of William & Annie) in 1894.  That will give me Annie's maiden name.

The only Annie Eleanor Askew that I can see married John Brough in 1890, she was a widow with maiden name Day.   :-\

Do you have the one you found on earlier census.
