Newrow,Newtonforbes
« on: Wednesday 08 February 12 10:44 GMT (UK) »
My Gt.Gt.Grandfathers baprismal entry from Newtonforbes (RC) has no address (1848) but his sisters entry in 1843 has the address of NEWROW ,  Parish/District of Newtonforbes.

I suspect, after much trawling on the internet ,where this may possibly be, but  would appreciate any thoughts from locals or anyone else  ;D  .

The family left Ireland abt 1851 for Scotland , so no GV for parents.

Apologies for the spelling errors, I don't know why I keep doing that  ::)  Also thank you for the links.

I have known for some time of my ancestors roots in this part of Longford, but only recently accessed the oldest childs baptismal record, 1843,  with the nearest thing to a street address I have seen so far (no townlands mentioned on any certs either).

So NEWROW is the problem and the nearest explanation I can find so far (it may be self-explanatory), is  the houses that were built outside the grounds of Castleforbes for the workers on the estate.

Ahhh...don't know off hand where New Row Cottages would be but can guess they are probably the row of cottages opposite C of I church as there is not much in village! I'll be that way next week and can ask at Post Office if you don't get answer from someone who knows in the meantime....

No problem...can I just ask you to double check if the records says Newtownforbes Parish or just Newtown Parish please?

Some details taken from info  sent to me by Rootsireland.ie (except for the Scottish ones of course  ;) )

As these dates are too early for civil reg births they have to be Baptism.

Name.....Mary Flynn

Date of Baptism/Birth........   16-Apr-1843
Address.......   Newrow
Parish/District.....   NEWTOWNFORBES
Gender....    Female
County...   Co. Longford
Denomination.....   Roman Catholic
Father.....   Bernard Flynn
Mother:   Margaret Cox
Occupation
Sponsor 1 .......Thimothy Cox
Sponsor 2 .......Mary Flynn

Elizabeth--1847, and Patrick-- 1848, all follow the same format without the address of Newrow.

Francis,John,Thomas --1851 (yep, triplets) were all baptised on day of birth in Scotland.

(Another) Thomas.... 1852

James ...1855 ,  whose  Scottish  civil cert.  gives his parents place of marriage, and their own births as Clongesh(sp).

Ok thanks, just wondered, as there is a New Row in Newtown Parish which is a completely different place.
