thomas phillips born phillack 1845.  Have death cert of a Thos Phillips 72yrs 30 June 1916.  It gives no info about parents, whether married, but daughter Bessie Phillips present at death.  Cannot confirm marriage, but he was in Navy 1881 and married.  How can I confirm this is the same Thomas Phillips or not?

Death certificates from England & Wales just give basic information!

Trying to find him in 1851 census - but can't see him (yet!).

1861 census: Piece: 1586; Folio: 90; Page: 18
Bodriggy Row, Phillack, Hayle, Cornwall

Oliver, Elizabeth  Head  Widow  F  83  Fund Holder  b St Erth
Oliver, Jane  Daughter  F  34  Tailoress  b Phillack
Phillips, Thomas  Grandson  M  16  Boiler Maker & Ass! (That's what it says on the census form!)  b Phillack

Found his baptism! ;D
4th January 1846 at Phillack
Thomas Phillips, son of Thomas Phillips and Jane Oliver
Father's residence Bristol, and a Smith

Phillack Parish Registers at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~phillack/baptisms/bap1845_1849.htm

1901 census: Class: RG13; Piece: 2111; Folio: 18; Page: 28
21 Avondale Terrace, Devonport, Devon

Phillips, Thomas  Head  M  56  Boilermaker  b Phillack, Cornwall
Phillips, Selina  Wife  F  52  b Phillack
Phillips, Thomas  Son  M  33  Engine Maker/Fitter  b Phillack
Phillips, Elizabeth  Daughter  F  30  b Phillack
Phillips, Selina  Daughter  F  28  Dressmaker  b Devonport
Phillips, Ellen  Daughter  F  20  Tailoress  b Devonport

His occupation seems to remain the same from 1851 onwards - boiler maker- so maybe a clue there?

Thomas, Selina and family are still in Devonport in 1911 - so that 1916 death is looking good!

We aren't allowed to divulge information about that census unfortunately - due to copyright restrictions.

Thank you so much K Garrad.  Yes my Thos Phillips was in the Navy 1881 on board "Arab".  1891 he was a boarder in 115 Albert Rd Stoke Demeral and Selina was with 5 chn in Churchtown Phillack.
What about the death of Selina, alive in 1911 Census 62yrs.   mother Jane Oliver and father Thos Phillips I believe never married.  I am hoping this is my Thomas.

This death looks likely:

December qtr 1935
Plymouth district    vol 5b, page 364
Phillips, Selina    age 87

As for Jane & Thomas - Jane was still single in every census I found her.

1851 census has 51 Thomas Phillips in Bristol, and another 72 in Cornwall!!
