William Wasley
« on: Friday 11 July 14 08:21 BST (UK) »
Hi folks
Looking for William Wasley's death between 1846 and 1850, husband of Elizabeth Gray and  son of another William Wasley, probably in Kea parish He had married Elizabeth Gray in 1846 in Kea parish.
His birth/christening date could be helpful also. I would say c. 1839

Cheers
Maxine

Hi Maxine,
Are you sure he died 1845-1850?
Is Elizabeth widowed on the 1851 Census?

1851 there is a William Wasley age 45 (born c 1806 Key (sic) Cornwall, Lodging in Beerferris, Devon.
Down as Married, Occp Lead Miner.

1846 has Williams Father as deceased.

Trish :)

possible baptism in Gwennap 17 Aug 1826 son of William & Grace, William a miner, abode shown as Kea.

Haven't spotted a burial as yet, but many Cornish miners moved away from Cornwall with or without their wives.

He was noted as of full age on his 1846 marriage, so born before 1839!

 ;)

I was typing as you replied Trish. His wife remarried in 1849.......

actually, that William in Bereferris could be the father of the missing one, but Wasley is not uncommon around Kea.

Thank you everyone. I got myself into a bit of a mess but think now it may be sorted!! But still a puzzle.
Elizabeth Gray married William Wasley 17 Oct 1846. I have the Certificate. Elizabeth  is 17.  William's father is William

The only William Wasley birth/chr is the one you have in Gwennap could be as mum is Grace and they called their child Grace?? (opc) I checked that out.

Grace Wasley born 24 March 1847  (opc) to this couple (this might be date of christening as there were others on that day, also parents William and Elizabeth. 3 in the same area and one othe in a different area.

Elizabeth Gray married Thomas Northey 27 Sep 1849 in Baldhu church (opc) so one must presume 1st husband had died.

Elizabeth and Thomas Northey show up in 1851 census in St  Cleer parish Grace W. is 5 so born c1848 also with another child.
No deaths in opc for William Wasley husband of Elizabeth
Death of a William Wasley in freebdm  Truro June quarter 1846  can't be right William as he can't die before he marries, so this last bit is the mystery.

Thinking caps on everyone!!!  Thomas  Northey and his brothers headed out to Victoria, Australia and Elizabeth and the family followed a while later, have them all documented in Ballarat Vic.

Cheers and thanks again.

the baptism in Chacewater for Grace does show the date she was baptised, dates of birth are not always shown on baptisms.

The other children baptised on that day belong to a different family, they have a different abode Blackwater, while Grace's parents show as living at Kerley. Although, just because William is named on the baptism doesn't mean that he was there.

This other family accounts for the rest of the baptisms
1851 Blackwater, Kenwyn HO107/1910 folio 479 pg 9 & folio 480 pg 10
William Wasley head mar 37 miner
Elizth wife 36 b. Cornwall, Gernsey
Elizth dau 16
Jane dau 13
William son 10
Hariot dau 8
Emma dau 6
Josiah son 4
Eliza dau 1
all born Kenwyn except Elizabeth senior

Possible birth reg for Grace
Grace Wasley march qtr 1847 Truro vol 9 pg 343

Have you eliminated the death reg in Neath for a William Wasley that I gave earlier?

Thank you Trish, I don't have any of those records, I can see the Wasley family now but my main interest is William Wasley's death, who married Elizabeth Gray and father of Grace, of course he could have gone out of Cornwall in that short time after he married Elizabeth and died elsewhere.
Cheers
