How can I find out who lived at an address in Hawthorne California in 1957

Hi Everyone , I have found the top of a letter sent to a long deceased member of my family.
There is an address in Hawthorne ,Los Angeles and the letter is dated 1957.
Can anyone tell me how I can look this up.

I'm still struggling. I need specific help if I'm honest.

The question is how do I find out who lived in address on WEST 131 STREET in September 1957.

Is there a directory by address I can use as I said I do not have a name sorry.

Can anyone Help !!!

There don't seem to be any directories for that town online.  You could try contacting the local library to see if they would be willing to look in their resources.  http://www.colapublib.org/contactus/askalibrarian.html

Another option, which may be a long shot, would be to check that address in the 1940 census.  You can check which enumeration district that address is in by using this site - http://www.stevemorse.org/census/unified.html

The house I believe was built in 1948. Which makes it too late for the 40 census .

The letter head is dated September 4th 1957 .

So I suppose I am being very specific in my enquiry.

I have been around the block on this one and been in touch with the city and libraries in LA.

I have been in touch with The Library of Congress in Washington DC.
The nearest they have is a 1950 directory but only on paper and they don't do look ups !!
So if anyone is going to the library and can take a look at the directory for Hawthorne city for 1950.

There are California voter registration lists from this period online.  Searching that address doesn't seem to lead to anything, but I think it may be a search engine issue.  I tried searching just West (or W.) 131 Street and got nothing.  I can't imagine there were no registered voters on the entire street. 

The lists appear to be grouped by town and then by precincts in the town.  Looking at the 1954 lists for Hawthorne, it had 36 precincts.  I have not yet found any addresses for West 131 St., but I've seen some that appear to be nearby streets.  I don't know there's any way to find out what voting precinct that address was in for the 1950's, but finding that information might make searching easier.
