Nolan, Inchmore
« on: Sunday 03 January 10 01:28 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if someone could help.  My great grandfather was John Nolan  b. abt 1870 in Westmeath died in Tubberclair he married Kate (possible Katherine) Berry b. abt 1875 also died in Tubberclair.  They had:
Michael J. b. 17/1/1904 d.30/4/1980 new York (My grandfather)
Mary "Annie" b. ? d.? Ireland
Christopher B. 1902 d. 1974 Portlick Ireland
James b. Sept 1905 d. 1980 USA I believe New York
Patrick b. 1906              d. 1969 New York
Kathleen b. 1910      d. 1936 Ireland (I believe of TB)
John b.     d.1911 d.? Ireland
Marcella (Sister Saint Sylvester) b. 1915    d. 1999 Ireland
Bridget "Bridie" b.?  d. 1989 Ireland
William "Willie" b. 1919    d. 1999 Killmore, Ireland

All were born in Glasson.  (Or on the island of Inchmore in Lough Ree)

I know they live on "the island."  Inchmore.  I was wondering if anyone had more information on John Nolan and Kate Berry and/or their parents.
I have John's parents as Michael Nolan b.abt 1820 and Anne Tiernan
Kate's parents as William Berry b. abt 1850 and Mary Dugan.
Any information you might have would be appriciated.  Thank you!

Welcome to Rootschat. I've split your post from the Conlan, Berry, etc. thread so there'll be a better chance of getting information for you or offering you suggestions about where to search next.
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,288141.30/topicseen.html

To start with, have you found the family in the 1911 census yet? It's online (free) and they'll soon be adding 1901 census as well.
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Index to civil registration is also online and you can look up the details needed to order birth, death and marriage certificates- goes up to 1958.

Thank you for your suggestions.  I just found the 1911 census before I posted yesterday.  It does not have information regarding parents etc. I will try the other website you suggested.  Thanks for your help!

The 1911 census asked married women how many years married so it will give an idea of when marriage took place, making it easier to narrow down search results in civil index.

The IGI (www.familysearch.org) has details of some, not all Irish births 1864-c1882 so you could do parent searches there to look for siblings of John and Kate. The site was down for maintenance earlier but will hopefully be working again soon.

Hello, my name is Bob Conlon and I have Berry and Nolan cousins. I believe the Nolans married into the Murray family in Tonagh in Tuberclair Parish near Glasson. I am also related to Murrays through marriage of Berrys. Confused yet? My gggrandmother was an Anne Berry that married a Thomas Conlon in Benown (close townland) around 1847. I hope to hear from you! take care, Bob

Yes we are certainly related!  I don't know where you live but  we are having a Nolan Family reunion Saturday August 7th in Ithca, NY.    My mother is Michael Nolan's daughter I am his granddaughter.  There will be many of the Nolan's children and grandchildren there.  My parents and I just got back from Ireland.  We stayed on Loch Ree and spoke to some of our relatives.  Please contact me.  It would be great if you were close enough to come to the reunion!
