Pool(e) family with connections to Aylesbury, Reading and Baldock
« on: Sunday 19 October 14 07:29 BST (UK) »
Hello - I wonder if anyone can help with a connection implied in a will? The 1766 will of Mary Moss of Baldock, Hertfordshire, whose maiden name I think was Stanton, refers to her cousin Mary Pool, widow of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and Mary Pool's daughter Diana Pool of Reading, Berkshire. I'd like to try and establish exactly how they were related - but as the family clearly straddled at least three counties I'm struggling a bit!

I've found that there was a Mary Poole, widow buried at Aylesbury in 1767, who I suspect was probably the widow of the Thomas Poole buried there in 1757, but I can't find any trace of the baptism of a Diana Poole, nor the marriage of Thomas and Mary to establish Mary's maiden name.

Can anyone spot any records which might help establish what the link was?

Many thanks
Richard.

Hi

HALS carries these . . . . .

Thomas Pool / Martha Read = Sawbridgeworth 30 Sep 1708

Thomas Pool / Mary Alet = Sacombe 26 Mar 1733   ( Alet . . . . . Aylett ? )

Thomas Pool / Mary Goddard = Middlesex South Mimms 22 Jan 1774

and a Thomas Poole in 1629.

Hi
Possible baptism for Diana
Diana Poole 3.12.1734 d of Thomas and Mary Poole St Mary Islington

I'm from the North so i don't know how far away that would be, but a possible?

Hello Ciderdrinker

Islington is certainly possible, if they were a family who occasionally nipped into London's (then outer) suburbs.

Ray - thanks for those marriages. The Sacombe one is probably the only one which works in terms of timing - wish I could say I recognised Aylett / Alet as a name to confirm the cousin connection, but I don't.

Hmm - still pondering.
Thanks
Richard.

Hi Richard

It may serve you better if you go to HALS ( online  ;D ) and have a play around.

There are not that many names to interest you, BUT you may spot something that you recognise?

One way there . . . . .
