The record for the Earsdon marriage on the Bishops Transcripts merely reads:
'William Middlemiss and Hannah Midford both of this parish, October 17th 1807'.

I think this is a good possibility, but no more than that.

Iam still unfamiliar with where England Towns, Cities are and how they change.

Janet, Here are two links which might help you in finding places in Northumberland or Durham.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0227/
http://www.rootschat.com/links/03o6/

Both pages give you lists of parishes. But also on each page is a link to a more detailed list of place names also well worth referring to.

Here is another Durham place-name link
http://www.rootschat.com/links/038x/

All of these are well worth adding to your favourites lists for future reference.

She doesn't seem to appear on censuses after 1851. This could well be her Death Reg-

Mar Q, 1857, Newcastle upon Tyne, vol 10b  page 37

Also, there is an IGI - extracted - entry for the bpt. of a Hannah Midford:

21 Jan 1787, Earsdon.

Parents - Robert Midford and Jane

This fits with her census age - 65 on the 1851 that Jennifer references - HO107/2421  Folio 227 Page 35

I think this is further evidence that she might well be the one  :)

It certainly all fits together nicely doesn't it.

What we need is a Shute Barrington baptism entry for one of the children giving Hannah's maiden name, and the native parishes of both parents  ;)

William would have only needed to be in, or have an Earsdon address, for 3 weeks to be 'of this parish'.

Dear Jan
You are looking into the family tree for William Middlemiss and Hannah Midford. We are descended from Robert Middlemiss and Jane was his sister who married John Mason and they emigrated to Australia. We would very much like to hear from you as we know nothing about the family back in England.

                             Regards
                                               Chris and Robyn Middlemiss

Dear Chris & Robyn, great to receive your message and find that you are related to me through our ancestors. I have done a lot of research through State Records, where you will find Robert Middlemiss and when he came out to Australia, he was invited by John Mason (brother-in-law) when Jane his wife was ill. Robert Middlemiss's parents were William Middlemiss 56 ag.lab, born in County.Hannah Middlemiss 53 born in county, children John Middlemiss aged 27 Jane Middlemiss aged 20 Barbara Middlemiss aged 15 and Robert Middlemiss aged 7 all born in county this is the record of the 1841 Census Parish of Chillingham Barns Farm. I have done a lot of searching through the Later Day Saints History Office where you can purchase BDM entries from them, and search through their records, Hannah Midford parents were Robert and Jane I don't know her maiden name but they were married in March 1857 at Newcastle Upon Tyne, Hannah was bap, 21/1/1787 her and William were married on the 17/10/1807 at Earsdon Northumberland, William was born around 1785 at Chillingham Farm. I hope this helps you, Iam still searching myself, they say you never are truly finished? ???

Regards,
Janet :D

Dear Janet
Delighted to hear from you. Did you know there was another child born to William and Hannah and that was Mary born 25/06/1809.? Had no idea about Jane either until we saw how Robert arrived here! Plus we did not know about John or Barbara! I can tell you that Hannah's mothers name was Jane Henderson and she was born about 1760. Can you tell us where you fit into the family and do you live in Australia? Robert had a very large family and Chris comes from his son Frederick line. Look forward to learning more. And you have whetteed our appetities now!

                                       regards
                                                        Robyn
