This other birth entry here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY52-5FS which supports the name of Amelia linked for George.

Added: other birth entries here, the rest in Lanark:

Jessie 1863 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQ88-J4L
Alexander 1865 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F77G-N2B
Amelia 1867 in Dundee above
James 1869 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F77G-N2B... think from census transcript, it should read 1 rather than 7 for age?
Alexander 1871 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F77G-NL9 likely first died and name reused (we only have James showing in 1871  :'().

Jonn mentioned earlier that Amelia had lived at Greenside Lane for many years. For 1861, with young George with her:

Amillie Campbell 68 grocer b. Hanley, Perthshire
James Carns 60 visitor
George Campbell 6 grandchild b. Lanark
Address: 10 Greenside Lane, Lanark

Potentially, we have all the children showing. Missing George Snr as you say from 1861...

Monica

Added: Sorry  :P You have young George with grandmother Amelia in 1861 already.

Thank you again Monica, Amelia's daughter in law Elizabeth was present at her death which again ties up with the other information. I plan to travel to Scotland early August hopefully. I found last year that the microfiche at the Mitchell helped to fill in some previous gaps but takes hours to read through. I managed to find information that I couldn't find on Scotland's People website so hopefully I will be able to find something recorded for Thomas.

That is good that Elizabeth Law reported Amelia's death. Every little piece of confirmation always helps doesn't it.

If you are going up to the Mitchell Library next month, have a search to see whether there is an application for poor relief for the family to be be found circa the late 1850s up to the 1861 census when we found Margaret and William at the Lanark Poorhouse.

A little here on holdings at the Mitchell: Lanark General register of the poor 1896-1913; Records of applications 1860-1862 & 1893-1901 (Glasgow City Archives ref. CO1/46 - records 1849-1913 microfilmed by the LDS as FHL Films 2355894 & 2356141-3)
www.myainfolk.com/Resources_files/Records_of_the_Scottish_Poor.pdf

If you haven't researched poor relief records before, have a look at these films from the Mitchell Library. Main reference here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,522720.0.html They are not available now through those links  :-\ However...Sancti found them on youtube (hurray!). See last link there www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=683686.0

Summary here /www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Family+History+at+Glasgow%27s+Mitchell+Library+

Thought you might also get some clues as to what happened to George following death of wife Marion from these...if there is any application records to be found that is.... ::)
