« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 16:00 GMT (UK) »
Help reading the Birth entry for their daughter Isobel - 14 July 1814, Inverness.

I can read everythimg except the father's occupation .  It seems to be SAYIER.  Could this be SAWYER?  Extract of birth entry is attached.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat.

It's difficult to disagree with your reading.  Although there does appear to be a definite letter 'i' after the 'y'.  Have searched for an sawyier occupation, but can't find one, however can find it given as a surname which suggests it may have been spelt that way once?

I take it you have them on the 1841 census - or I assume it's that family at: from Freecen) .  You'd have to get the original from SP to confirm. - www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (a reasonably priced ppv site ).

Barron's Brulomys Bogbain (Address difficult to read )

Hello Hector

Have just downloaded Alexander Barrons death entry.

Aged 88, widower of Janet McDonald.  Died on 2nd June 1874.

Address:  Bogbain Croft.  Parish of Croy and Dalcross.

Hopefully someone with access to census records can post census records forward from the '41.

Witness to death - son, Donald Barron

If you make a further 2 posts you can pm me with your e-mail address and I'll forward the death entry - not the best quality, but readable.

Regards,   Steve :)

My pleasure

If you go to Freecen, you'll also find Alexander on the 1851 censu aged 63, with wife Janet and unmarried son Donald at 'Bogbain of Inshes'.

You can find Bogbainto the SE of Inverness, on the NLS map below then zoom down in then change to 'historic setting - to the SE of the current Raigmore Hosptal.

That is brilliant.  I shall PM you.

I have the Gaelic Bible from 1830 that belonged to the Hector Morrison mentioned, and it has all the children's names written in it as they were baptized.

Many thanks
Hector Morrison

Hello Hector,

I was researching an ancestor of mine whose name was Alexander McKenzie.  I find he married Mary Ann Morrison the daughter of Hector Morrison and Isabella Barron in 1867.  Do you know of this connection?

Regards,
Jane.
