Malcolm Morrison, Margaret Curran, North Uist
« on: Saturday 15 February 14 22:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I'm new here and hoping you all can shed some light...

I have a Malcolm Edward Morrison married to a Margaret Curran, with issue Catherine (b. 1815), John (b.1816), Finlay/Fenley/Phillip (b. 1822), and Donald (b. 1826). They arrived in Cape Breton in 1833, but it is unknown whether they arrived straight from Scotland, or had lived elsewhere in Canada for a time. The headstones for the children (in Cape Breton) indicate North Uist as the place of birth.

Does anyone have any information on this family?

Hi Monica - thanks for the link. I've seen it before, and was hoping someone here might be able to fill in some gaps.

Thanks! By any chance do you have any source material for Malcolm's birth date or marriage dates? Or place names for either Malcolm or Margaret?

I'm actually wondering if the surname "Curran" has somehow evolved from a more likely Uist surname of Currie/Curry.

There are very few records for any of the Uists for that period unfortunately.

Do you have a name of an area, even if the spelling is wrong we can try & decipher a likely place.

Also, Edward is not a common Uist name either & I would be surprised to find an Edward to be honest.

Is it possible they were from elsewhere & Malcolm was possibly working there?

Do you have an occupation for him?
