Gray family
« on: Saturday 30 June 07 15:38 BST (UK) »
Hi All.
I am trying to find the family of my cousins mother.
My cousin and i had this conversation about her mothers side of the family, at the end of the chat she said to me and i believe they where traveling people.
The lady i am looking for is Grace Gray, born 22 march 1906, and that is all i know.
She had at least 1 brother and 1 sister that i know of Eliza Gray and Bertram Gray.
Any help would be great.
Thank you.

Do you have any clues as to whereabouts they were born or travelled?

I know many of the Grays travelled Lincs/Notts/Cambridge/Norfolk/Suffolk, and a few went north to Lancs.

Hi
I now have the marriage cert of Grace Gray. It gives her father as Edward Henry Gray, and his trade is given as locksmith.
So now am thinking the family maybe where not travelers.
And they where in Islington London.
Any thoughts?
William James.

Do you have her birth certificate? Both names together would help the search. There seem to be many Edward Grays around. With both names, you could search for the marriage and find out if they were married before the 1901 census.
Grace Gray june qtr 1906 Southwark vol 1d pg 117

Hi Osprey.
No i don't have the birth cert, that is next on the list when i talk to my cousin tomorrow.
But i think i might have found Edward Henry Gray's birth on free B M D.
and also his marriage, again not sure, as we are not sure of the maiden name of his wife.

I can see these possible in 1901 and there are probably more
6 Springdale Rd, Stoke Newington RG13/206 folio 169 pg 47
Edward H Gray head mar 25 ? contractor b. Islington
Alice E wife 26 b. Hackney
Edward J son 3 months
Archibald H 3 months twins b. Stoke Newington

possible marriage
Edward Henry Gray march qtr 1900 Islington vol 1b pg 285 with Alice Emily Gunner on the same page

73 Kinglake St, Walworth RG13/377 folio 115 pg 5
Robert Vaughan head widower 52 ? b. Lambeth
Eliza Gray dau mar 23 b. Walworth
Edward Henry Gray son-in-law 23 ? b. Bermondsey
Eliza dau 2 b. Walworth
Robert Henry son 10 months b. Walworth

Think the enumerator meant grand-daughter and grandson for the children here as the relationship should be to head of family. Also, the occupations have big thick ink marks over them making them almost impossible to read, but I don't think Edward Henry's says locksmith. It might start with a 'g'. So neither Edward is a locksmith. Birth cert would give address and his occupation at that time so definitely worth getting as otherwise it would be guesswork.
