« on: Sunday 10 March 13 21:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello folks, could anybody help me with researching my family tree, i am struggling on my 4th grt grandfather, as far as i know ( from scotlands people) James Donaldson was born in Linlithgow, and married a Janet Marshal, they had a son Robert (b1806), could anybody help in obtaining any info relating to my relatives.

Another thing i am trying to research is where my relatives could be buried, or info on the church yards in Linlithgow, my family eventually moved and settled in Sunderland around 1880.

Thanks for your looking any help would be gratefully appreciated

Do you mean the town/parish of Linlithgow, or the county formerly known as Linlithgowshire or the county of Linlithgow until 1929, when it was renamed West Lothian? It will make quite a difference to the answer!

I see from the IGI at www.familysearch that they had five children, all born in Bathgate, West Lothian: Thomas, 1799; Janet, 1800; Thomas, 1803; Jean, 1805; Robert, 1806.

The Scottish Genealogy Society has published details of gravestones in West Lothian with inscriptions relating to deaths before 1855.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hello Kevin,

I have the burial discs for West Lothian. There are a number of Donaldsons, however I would need more info. Send me a PM if there are names you would like to to look up.

Hello Skoosh,

Sorry, burials on disc start later than 1840s. Starting dates depend on individual cemetery, earliest is about 1860, others start later than that.
