Elizabeth Johns
« on: Friday 04 July 14 17:04 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for Elizabeth Ann Johns, she was born 1850 the 1881 census says born in Hale Cornwall but I presume they mean Hayle. In 1881 she is married and living in Liverpool her marriage certificate in 1869 has her father Joseph Johns, Mariner, could someone be so kind to see if you can find them in Cornwall on the 1851 or 1861 census.

Thank you Lynne

Familysearch has a possible baptism in 1852 in Stithians. Not exact on age or place, but could be close enough to be worth considering.

are you sure it says mariner and not MINER on the marriage certificate for father joseph . I can see a likely candidate but her father joseph is a copper miner.

In various census years her age varies between 1846 and 1850.  Although this doesn't help find her in 1851, I wonder if in 1861 she is transcribed Elizabeth John Currel age 15 born Cornwall and working as a servant in West Derby with the following family.  She is listed as just Elizabeth John on the image

James Currel 33 (looks like Curril) b Walton on the Hill
Harriet Currel 32
Caroline H  4
Frederick W  1
Elizabeth John Currel    15

Hi so that we know who Elizabeth Ann Johns is married to in 1869 West Derby, then this looks to be family 1871:-

John Lea 24 occ Ships Joiner b Liverpool
Elizabeth A 25 or 23? b possibly Hayle, Cornwall on original
Emma E 5 months? b Liverpool
Residing Ewbank Street, West Derby
Census ref RG10/3816/101/31

Keep looking at the niece aged 2 b Hayle Elizabeth Hambly in 1851?

Hi all thank you for the information so far, it could say miner and not mariner on the marriage certificate and yes that's the family in 1871 census. That could be her on the 1861 census already living in Lancashire.

Thank you again Lynne

the parish of Hayle was created in 1888 out of part of the parish of Phillack. So this is a possible family from 1851

Bodriggy, Phillack HO107/1916 folio 624 pg 47
Emma Johns wife 30 sailor's wife b. Perran Well ?
Emma Jane dau 7 b. Phillack
Elizth Ann dau 5 b. Phillack
Amelia dau 5m b. Phillack

There's a baptism on the opc site, Ellen Johns  bp 25-6-1854,dau of Joseph & Emma abode Bodriggy, Joseph being a mariner.
There was an earlier Amelia buried in 1849 aged 2 of Bodriggy.

1881 census has Joseph & Emma in Everton, RG11 3662 folio 124 pg 37. Emma's birthplace looks to be Chacewater in that year, it differs in the ones I've looked at, Joseph's perhaps Helston.
Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Good find with Eliz Ann age 5 living with the family in 1851, but not in 1861 when the family were in Everton Liverpool and she may be working as the servant I posted earlier
