This is very interesting as I have an Alexander Peterkin from Skeith in my family tree.  He had an illegitimate daughter with Elizabeth Strachan in 1834 and I have reached a stalemate with Alexander.  I am wondering if this could  be the one.

I am searching The nicol family. My ancestor was Christian Nicolher parents were James Nicol Coachman and Elizabeth Kelman. Christian was born around 1840 in Gamrie Banffshire. I am having some difficulty getting any further back looking for any help

I was at Portsoy Public School in the 1940's with Anne and Sheila Peterkin, who were living in a house on Church Street with their mother, but they came from Broughty Ferry and went back there later.  My mother used to say that their father had been her boyfriend, long before, so he must have lived in Portsoy.

@AlanZed

Hi Alan i'm from North Carolina and I'm doing research on my family and I've discovered that I'm a descended from James Wilkie and Isabel Peterkin. You mentioned you have photos of their gravestone from the Fordyce Parish Churchyard. Is there anyway you could email those to me? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Donk , welcome to RootsChat  :)

Although no longer in existence there was another Peterkin stone which was trascribed in 1886.  At that time it read:

"In memory of James Wilkie, sometime in Barnyard, who departed this life 17 march 1749, and Isabel Peterkin his spouse who departed this life 23 March 1718.  This stone was erected by james Wilkie in Dytach, Capt. Alexander Wilkie and William Wilkie in Barnyards, their sons.  This is the burial place of them and their posterity. "

Looks like the Gravestone no longer exists  :(

Thanks ev, are you from Scotland? I'm very interested in the Fordyce area since I've begun my research.

I live in Buckie, but I'm quite familiar with Fordyce. I spent a lot of time there as a youngster, staying at my Granny's. She lived in Castle Lane, a stone's throw from the castle. We have connections going a long way back in Fordyce parish, Peterkin's certainly, but also many other families.
