Sherrington / Le Coq marriage
« on: Wednesday 21 November 12 19:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find out a bout the marriage and families of my late great grandparents Douglas (possible Dowlass?) Sherrington and Ellen Le Coq in Guernsey. I don't know where to start with the Channel Islands. Can anyone offer any help please? I think the marriage would have occured about 1875?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately there isn't a lot of information on line for the Channel Islands (I live in Jersey) and it means you will need to visit Archive Centres or pay for the centres to do research on you behalf.  However, I have found Douglas Stanley Sherrington in the 1911 census living with his wife Ellen Annie who was born in Jersey so perhaps this could be who you are looking for.  They are living in Southsea, Portsmouth and he is in the Royal Navy.

I'll see if I can find any more information on Ellen for you if you like.

Best regards
Sandra

Do you have access to Census Paul?
If not let me know and will type up..

1851 Census Helen Le Gros BISSON c 1849 is with Parents;

1861 Census Nicholas seems to be with Parents Nicolas c 1820 and Sophia (Gallihan) c 1820 Trinity. He is a Unm 17yr old Mason. Father Nicolas is a Shoemaker.

1841 Census (under Lecocq)
Trinity, Jersey,
Channel Islands
HO107/1462/8/Trinity
Nicolas Le Cocq, 65, Shoe Maker
Jane, 65
NICOLAS, 20
Philip, 9

Next door is;
John GALLIHAN, 68, Farmer
Jane, 62
SOPHIA, 20

1851 we have;
Nicholas LECOCQ Jnr, 32, Shoemaker Journeyman
Sophia, 32
NICHOLAS, 8
John, 6
Sophia, 4
Philip, 2

So looks like 3 generations of a Nicholas at least.

Hi Paul,

Do you have access to Ancestry.co.uk if so search under Ellen Le Cocq and you will that another member has researched this tree.

Kind regards
