Hi Trevor

The "Commonwealth War Graves Commission" site:
http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx

gives information to say:

Leonard was 36 when he died, so born abt 1882
His parents were at time of his death : the late William and Anna Kersley, of St. Cross, Winchester; husband of Margaret Young Kersley, of 2, Morrison Place, Hawick.

The English 1901 Census:
http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
appears to have Leonard enumerated with his family as follows in:
New Alresford, Southampton
William KERSLEY age 46, Seedsman Florist, born Winchester, Hants
Anna KERSLEY age 45, born Romsey, Hants
Leonard KERSLEY age 18, Printer Compositor, born Winchester, Hants
Emily KERSLEY age 16, Housemaid, Domestic, born Winchester, Hants
(This is just undex informatiom - but you can pay a small amount to download the actual record - there may be others in the house of interest to you).

The 1881 Census, also viewable on LDS site:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp
gives the following:
Front Street, St Faith, Winchester, Hants: RG11/ 1231/13, pg 19
William KERSLEY, Head, 26, born Wyke, Hampshire, Gardener
Anna KERSLEY, Wife, 26, born Lockerley, Hampshire
Lucy KERSLEY, dau, 1, born Harestock, Hampshire

Hope this helps
Cheers
Anne

You could also try the Hawick News, write to them, I know the Library has copies of the news and I,m sure he would of been mentioned in the paper at the time of death as so many of our brave lads were, worth a try? good luck
