Christopher Lamprey born and married in Dublin
« on: Monday 23 September 13 07:53 BST (UK) »
Looking for information and connections to Christopher Lamprey - Have marriage details as 18 November 1846 married Ellen Heath at Monkstown, Dublin - Christopher's profession - Cabinet maker and residence listed as St Mark Parish, Dublin - the only information for father is the words 'deceased'

The following information is from death certificate in Australia - 10 November 1885 Elizabeth Street, Richmond.  He was a civil servant  (post office postmaster) - Parents 'Not Known'  - age at death 63 years   - death certificate says born Dublin, Ireland  - spent 2 weeks in South Australia and 28 years in Victoria, Australia

This means that 1856 - 1857 is the time Christopher and Ellen Lamprey and four children (Richard dec'd Harriet Mary, William Christopher John, Henry John, George born 1854) came to Australia - more children born in Australia - Richard 1857, Olivia 1859, Ellen 1862, Emma Ann 1864, George Edward 1867

I am thinking that Christopher's father may have been Richard Lamprey and maybe his mother has a maiden name of Phibbs or Phipps.      Richard who died as an infant was named Richard Phibbs Lamprey

I don't have any other information for leads to trace Christopher and his family in Ireland, so any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, regards Alison

Another baptism (RC) for her as well:

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/33e0d50199841

Baptism (1851) William Christopher Lamprey- mother Eleanor:

Like brother Henry John there's another RC baptism:

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/9442000205039

Baptism (1852) Henry John Lamprey- mother Ellen:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/75e3cf0119044
Interestingly there's another baptism for Henry John (St. Andrew's RC):
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/fecd1c0207499

There is a baptism and then burial for a Richard Lamprey in Dublin on the same site but too early to be the father of Christopher. You could try searching through some of the online directories here-

Thankyou for the baptism records.
Was it common for two baptisms - does that mean one parent was Catholic and the other parent was not
Any baptism for Christopher Lamprey about 1821?
Thanks again for the info, regards ..... Alison

It was not common practice to baptise a child twice so it may be that one parent was Catholic and the other Church of Ireland. Where did the 1846 marriage take place? not in a Catholic church since registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 and this one appears in the civil registrations-

You can search the church records website as I did for Lamphrey, Christopher Lamprey, Richard Lamprey, etc. but if I had found a possible baptism I would have posted the link. It may be that Christopher wasn't born in Dublin itself but not all church records for that period survive and of those that do not all are online.

Link to references for Marriage in 1846
If you haven’t a copy already you can order the civil certificate from the General Registrar’s Office
Just write the details of the Volume & Page Number on the application
Christopher and Ellen’s marriage is also listed in the “Deputy Keeper of Ireland, Index to the Act or Grant Books, and to Original Wills, of the Diocese of Dublin 1272-1858 (26th, 30th and 31st Reports, 1894, 1899”

This is the baptism of George Heath LAMPNY in 1854
The address given is Lincoln Place where Christopher is listed on the Griffiths Valuation LINK
He is also listed in the St. Mark's 1851 Dublin City Census Transcription at Lincoln Place which shows a continued attachment to this area.

Richard's baptism is in Monkstown on the paid site rootsireland.ie in 1847

Link to Return of Number of Persons entitled to vote at Election of Members for Cities and Boroughs in Ireland 11 Jun 1830
listed here are Joseph and William LAMPREY on page 7 as carpenters.
Families tended to follow trades there is a good chance that Christopher is connected to one or both of these men.
Unfortunately as Aghadowey has mentioned the records at that time are scare.

The name Lamprey is also associated at that time in Dublin with Cutlers and Silversmiths with exhibits at the National Exhibitions e.g. Cork 1852
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

Thankyou for the information. I marvel at your ability to find details. I am particularly interested in Joseph and William Lamprey being carpenters, this fits in with Christopher being a cabinet maker - there is also William and Joseph names appearing in future generations so this could be a good trail to investigate, thanks again, regards Alison

I have narrowed the search dates for Christopher Lamprey and family travelling to Australia although I haven't yet found them in shipping records - child baptised in Dublin 23 August 1854 and child buried in Australia (Melbourne) 13 May 1856 so now looking at shipping records from late 1854 to early 1856 ............  Still not found birth or parents ............. Still haven't found shipping records from Dublin to Australia for Christopher and Ellen Lamprey and children Richard, Harriet, William, Henry, George,
Would be sometime between 15 October 1854 to 13 May 1856

Death certificate of Christopher 10 November 1885 says two weeks in South Australia and 28 years in Victoria   and   death certificate of Ellen 11 September 1900 says 44 years in Victoria

Don't know if 2 weeks for Christopher indicates he arrived in South Australia or whether he went to visit his son later for a holiday of 2 weeks at some time - hard to interpret the information at times, and we rely on the person providing the information at the time - no mention on the 2 weeks on Ellen's death

I have searched some shipping indexes over the years but not confident of using shipping information - any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks  ............. Alison

I don't have access to roots-ireland and I wondered if anyone has access to look up one baptism - as mentioned in previous posts - Richard Phibbs Lamprey born 9 October and bp 24 Oct 1847 Monkstown - just wondered if there was any additional information from the document that might be useful, such as an address etc  The subscription of 25 euro converts to $37 and I only need this one baptism which may or may not have additional information
