A bunch of Cherries (Cherry/Wright Astwood)
« on: Thursday 10 October 13 22:39 BST (UK) »
Hi, its me again!

Ok, i am slightly confused.

I have a Thomas Cherry (1794 from Twyford? ), Marries Elizabeth Wright (1801-1872 Daughter i think of William and Ann)

They have five children. Ann, Pheobe, Eliza, Betsy, Eloisa Elizabeth.

William Wright born 1838 son of Thomas and Mary. Thomas is a son of William and Ann and therefore Elizabeth (1801's) Brother.

So am I making a huge cock up here, or is Eloisa Elizabeth Cherry marrying her first cousin?

I have Elizabeth Wright baptised 25/11/1792 Astwood daughter of Charles Wright & Ann Bason who married 23/4/1790. Elizabeth married Thomas Cherry on 15/6/1819 Astwood, one witness being Mary Wright, presumed to be her sister born 1794. Thomas was buried 1852 but on 1851 census he is from Poundon, Bucks.

Thomas & Elizabeth's daughter Eloisa Elizabeth Cherry baptised 9/2/1834 Astwood, at age 27 she married William Thomas Wright age 24 at Astwood on 27/2/1862. He was son of Thomas & Mary Wright, living with them in 1841,51,61 censuses. He was baptised 25/2/1838 at Astwood. Father Thomas baptised 21/6/1799, son of William Wright & Ann Faulkner - well he married Mary Taylor at Hardmead on 14/10/1823, Mary was born 1802ish Calverton Bucks.

Charles 1763 (who married Ann Bason) & William 1760 (who married Ann Faulkner) were both baptised Hardmead, are brothers, sons of Charles & Ruth

Ah thanks John, makes more sense that way round.

I found all this while trying to correct an error. I had William and Eloisa Elizabeths son Thomas (1865) Marrying Harriet in North Crawley. I found a Death for Thomas Cherry Wright which rules this out, so the only other 1865 Thomas is Eli and Sarah Tyrrells son.

He (Thomas) marries Harriet ? surname from North Crawley. Enoch, his uncle married a Harriet Campion also from North Crawley.

This is why I cross reference with other sources so much. There is a big link with the Astwood Wright clan and the North Crawley Wright clan i have not fully explored.

Regards

Mike

Yes Thomas Cherry Wright baptised 4/6/1865 son of William Thomas & Eloisa Elizabeth is buried Astwood on 15/4/1871 age 6. The other Thomas was baptised 12/2/1865 son of Eli Wright & Sarah Rebecca Tyrell who married 8/11/1847 at Hardmead. I have him marrying Harriet Goodman in Dec qtr 1889 in Newport Pagnell RD, she was born 1867 North Crawley. Their son Percy b 1904 Stagsden, is father of my sister's husband born 1941.

Another marriage at Astwood on 7/11/1842 of William Wright aged 25 bach of North Crawley, son of John Wright to Sarah Fields age 23 of Astwood, daughter of John Fields. Witnesses were Enoch Wright & Harriet Wright. I'm thinking this William b 1817 baptised 30/8/1818 Astwood is son of John & Ann Wright, & brother to Eli & Enoch.

Any other children brothers/sisters to Percy?

This is not what i have, although you may be right. The Sarah i have is from Kempstone. Sarah Fields makes more sense.

Do you know if they had children? i seem to have some in Kempston and some Astwood

Bit of tree editing tonight me thinks

Thomas & Harriett Wright had following children
Lillian Eliza 1891 Astwood
Winifred Rebecca 1892 Astwood
Mabel 1895 Stagsden
Albert Eli 1898 Stagsden - died 1898
Edward Thomas 1898 Stagsden - twin of Albert Eli
Albert Frank 1901 Stagsden
& Percy 1904 Stagsden

William Wright & Sarah Field(s) had Sarah 1842, Zilpah 1844, Mary 1846, Martha 1846 all born Kempston, then at Astwood was John 1849, Ann 1851 (buried 1852) Abraham 1853 & Annie 1857. From the IGI there's a baptism at Kempston All Saints of Sarah Field on 7/2/1819 daughter of John & Ann. Also baptisms at Kempston of Mary & Martha on 29/3/1846. On the 1841 census I can find Sarah Field in Kempston but cannot locate this William Wright.

Back to your bunch of cherries; Phoeby Cherry 1821 daughter of Thomas & Eloisa, married Frederick Wright, son of William Wright on 4/7/1849, one witness was Eliza Cherry, her sister.

Thats a bit better. Until i find the next little error.

Percy in his new position on my tree is now my first cousin three times removed. Apparently.

Going back to Harriet Goodman, there was an Annie Maria Goodman who also marries a Steven Wright in 1872.
The banns were read at Astwood on 1/12/1872 but the marriage was not there. Stephen Wright, bach to Anne Maria Goodman, spin. He was born 1850 & had his baptism at age 21 on 27/11/1870, parents Thomas Wright & Naomi Woods who married at Stagsden in 1832. Thomas born 1807 is son of Charles & Ann Bason. Charles & Ann also had John born 1797 who married Ann Wilding & they had Eli 1824 who married Sarah Tyrell & they had Thomas 1865, He married Harriett Goodman in Dec 1889.

So that links the Wrights, but not sure about the Goodmans of North Crawley. Looking back through censuses; first Harriett Goodman b 1867 daughter of Thomas 1843 & Elizabeth. Thomas's father was Edward b 1813 who married a Sarah. Then Annie Maria Goodman b 1848 her parents are Thomas 1821 & Jane who married March 1841. No family linkage at yet, could Edward 1813 and Thomas 1821 be brothers ?
