Pembroke House - Penygroes
« on: Saturday 23 June 12 11:50 BST (UK) »
Following on with the Owen family from Hen Gapel I have been given information on William William Owen my grandfathers cousin. He died in action in the 1st World War and there is information on him on a web site called findagrave.com.
From this site I've noticed that a photo of William was added by a George Evans, who is he and what connection if any is he to the Owen family.
But I've also been given William's wife name of Asneth Owen living at Pembroke House Penygroes.
Does anybody have any information on this location or George Evans.

Wuold have thought it unlikely they were the same as Penygroes and Llandwrog are two distinct villages

Looking back in 1881 there was a Pembroke Tavern on  High St, Penygroes - perhaps the name carried on.

Alternatively, it was a name used locally for Asneth's family home, especially given her father came from Pembrokeshire!  Ignore that - wrong Asneth

Hi Mabel,
thanks for this info.
I sent an email earlier to the library in Penygroes to see if they might have any info on the Pembroke House address.
Thanks again
Pauline

Hi Hanes Teulu,
thanks for the info.
Not sure who Catherine Williams (Pembroke House) is related to? My grandfathers mother's maiden name was Williams and her father was an Elias Williams of Rhyd-Ddu. My grandfather's mother had 4 other sisters and a brother William. I need to do more delving.
I am interested though in finding out more about Pembroke House.
Kind regards
Litherland Lass
Pauline.

Pauline,
I have "walked" the streets of the hamlet/village of Pen y Groes - as defined on the 1891 Census - without spotting a Pembroke House.

Have also found a reference to a Pembroke House in Bryncir - just south of Penygroes.

regards

Hi Hanes Teulu,
if you look above from the message from Graham Simmons. The site he gives is where I found the address about Pembroke House. By all means have a look and see if there is anything there that you might have info on. I am interested on who provided the data. Any help gratefully accept.
