This is a shot in the dark for which you'd need young Thomas's marriage certificate to prove anything.

In the 1901 census:

113 Great Dover Street,Newington.

Thomas Miller  -  47 b. Southwark.  dealer in horse flesh,at home.

Catherine  -  45  St George's

Thomas Arthur  -  19  St George's

James  -  15  St George's

Ellen  -  17  St George's

Martha  -  8  St George's

Maggie  -  6  St George's

James Mahoney  -  57  brother-in-law  (B. Cork,Ireland)

Thomas Miller married Catherine Marney(sic) in St Saviour's district,Southwark, in 1878

In 1881,  Thomas & Catherine Miller are living in 2 Fisher's buildings,Southwark. They have two daughters  Mary Ann (aged 2) and Catherine (aged 8 months). In 1891,they are living in 298 Tabard Street,Southwark, and he's listed as Thomas A. Miller (Thomas Arthur??).

Given the names of the children(i.e. Thomas Arthur,Mary Ann and Martha),he looks a distinct possibility.

Another long shot,I'm afraid and difficult to prove.

1861  -  57 Hill Street,Walworth

Thomas Miller  -  aged 8, born Walworth,scholar,boarder.

The boy is boarding with a couple called Samuel and Hannah Kerridge.

It may be a total red herring but, sometimes,if a family were having problems (i.e. father's illness or death),the youngest was often farmed out to family, friends or neighbours to bring up. It happened several times in my immediate family.  It meant that mum could work to keep them out of the workhouse.   My uncle's youngest aunt was left with neighbours in Liverpool when her suddenly widowed mother took her three older children with her to her home town of St Helen's.

Interestingly though.. that thomas was a horseflesh dealer.. so it does all tie in.. and as he got older he went by arthur thomas
