FIELD family of Corsham
« on: Tuesday 22 July 14 07:58 BST (UK) »
Some years ago we bought some old pictures to use the frames. Underneath one of the prints was an A4 sized portrait photo of a bearded man, I'd say in his 20s or 30s, and possibly of late Victorian/Edwardian vintage. On the back of the photograph is written "From A. Field, 7 Cross Keys, Corsham, Wilts." I haven't been able to pinpoint them on a census, but I'm no expert. If anyone is working on this family and would like a copy of the photo, please let me know. I have scanned it and could email it.

I live in South Australia, so presumably there were friends or rellies of the Fields here.

There is one Field family listed 1901, living in High Street, Corsham, they were stationers and tobacconists.       [All the other Fields are living Colherne, area Chippenham].

I guess it could be Arthur Charles Field, who is still at home with his family at the age of 21 in 1911, so the photo could well be later than my estimate. Although his face appears to be unlined, his curly hair is receding slightly and I would say he is definitely older than 21. I was probably thinking that men didn't wear full beards much after the Edwardian period.

Why not put the photograph on here, someone in the correct Field family somewhere may claim him.
