Christian, b. 1842, Kinross, Kinross, d. 1849
Jane, b. 1844, Kinross, Kinross,  d. 1849
Andrew, b. 1847,Wester Balado, Kinross, m. Catherine McNaughton, d. 1934
James, b. 1853, Wester Balado, Kinross, possibly changed his name to Wright - he is referred to in the family Bible as James Cairns Wright.

Hi Ev,

Thanks for checking.  I had found that 1881 entry and do think it is probably my James.  The best way to check would be with his death entry.  I found two, one of which is the one you found.  They are on the my other computer so I can't access them at the moment or I'd give details of the other one.  If I remember correctly, the other one is a death entry for a James Cairns, no Wright.  He did die in 1918 according to the family bible, in Dunblane.

I plan on getting it at some point.  I tend to save up the entries I want to see and wait until I go to Scotland to check them, which I plan do next year.  I also had found the marriage, but didn't have the surname of the bride.  Again, that is on my 'wish list' for when I go home.  Sometimes I do break down and just download them on SP but it is costly.

Thanks again :)

Hi there,

As a new member, I hope I'm doing this right. I found your discussion when trying to trace the family tree on my father's side.

From what i know, James Cairns (b. 1853 Balado, Kinross) changed his name to Wright later in life. He married Sarah Downs in 1877. One of their children, Margaret Cairns Wright (b. around 1889, died 1964) would have been my great grandmother. Would be interested in any further information if anyone has it.

I do know that Margaret married an Aurthur Ensell from Birmingham, but do not have much information about this. They had one daughter, Winifred Abernethy (b. approx 1912). Winifred married a Thomas Abernethy in Dunblane in 1939. Winifred and Thomas were the parents of my father, James Abernethy.

Hi,

I have newly found the following birth of Margaret Cairns Wright and also the births of her siblings and some of their families and would be willing to share.  I have no idea why James Cairns changed his name to 'Wright' but he did add Cairns in front of Wright in all his children's names.  I now have all the census of this family up to and including the 1911 census.  I also have the marriage and death entries of James (1853).

James CAIRNS WRIGHT Marriage & Death
« Reply #6 on: Saturday 05 January 13 03:50 GMT (UK) »
In the marriage entry, James states that his father is James Cairns Wright and mother is Jane Wright, maiden name Stevenson.  In the death entry it is correct, with the father as James Cairns and the mother as Jane Cairns, maiden name Stevenson.

Hello,
I've recently been looking into my family connections to Dunblane. My gg grandfather was James Cairns Wright who was married to Sarah Downs. My Mum has recently given me copies of old photos which I will get scanned at some point soon. One is a super photo of the wedding of Evelyn to Alexander McGregor and has James and his wife Sarah.  I'm sure one of the children in the photo is likely to be Winnie. There is a possibility that one of the adults is also Margaret.

I am very happy to share once I have the ability to send private messages.

Has your branch of the family any idea why he added "Wright" after the "Cairns"?

Hi,

I have no idea why he changed his name to Wright.  There are family rumours but no real evidence.  James Cairns Wright was the brother of my direct ancestor, Andrew Cairns.  I have been in touch with another direct descendant of James and she has no idea either.  I would love the photos when you can send pm's:)

Do you have all the census information?  If not I can send it to you.
