Need to Find a Booklet
« on: Sunday 11 November 12 00:06 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me get a copy of a booklet written by Irene Anderson and titled Garvald, The Lairds, Tenants and Tradesmen.  I don't know when it was written or who the publisher was.

Thanks

Sandra

Scroll down on this link (below) on The East Lothian Council website ( 8th item).
Click on the "check availability" link.
It seems a number of local libraries hold a copy.

If you aren't in a position to visit, perhaps they'd be willing to send you a photocopy?

Thanks for the link.  From what is there it looks as though she published the booklet herself.

I would like to take a trip through but don't know if I can at the moment.  I will ask and see if the library is willing to copy, or is there an inter library borrow possible?

I don't know the answer to your inter library question but I don't suppose the booklet will be any different to a 'normal' book.
If you are a member of a Scottish library, there is nothing to lose by nipping in to your local library and asking.
I've had my local library order in books for me in the past.
Even if it is classed as a 'reference' item, they may still be able to get a hold of it and allow you to view it within your local library.
I did notice on the link that in one case, it is noted that it has a return date of 30 Nov - suggests that they are willing to lend it out.

Sandra.... I live in Canada and can not get to a library or history centre in Scotland  ...I too am interested in this booklet as I have Andersons and Allans from the area.   Did you ever find a way to get a copy?   Thanks in advance for reading.

Hello Eileen,

Alas I was not able to track down a copy.  I did get a photocopy of sorts and will try to look it out and see if there is any reference to Allans and Andersons.  It will be a few days as time is in short supply just now for family history.

Kind regards,

Sandra

Hi,

Some info on the following link,
http://capitadiscovery.co.uk/eastlothian/items/130317?outdated=true

I think best to contact the John Gray Centre,
http://www.johngraycentre.org/visit/contact-us/
they seem to have 3 copies. You can maybe ask them for specific info, or get a photocopy, they may charge a fee, but I have found them to be very helpful.

Thank you!  I was lucky enough to have a friend stop in at the John Grey Centre while visiting the area and they photocopied several pages.

All the best,

Eileen
