Restoration requested of Harvey photo

This is a photo of my 3xgreat-grandfather George.  I don't have access to the original, the scan being forwarded to me.  The original scan is a tiff file and I've produced a 100% jpeg version reduced to <500kb for posting here.  Would much appreciate any efforts to produce an improved image.

Many thanks to genechaser, Trishanne (Pat), Treetotal (Carol) and Brit2015 for your (very swift!) interpretations of George's image.  All very interesting, useful and most encouraging in bringing more of George back to life.  Felt this was going to be a rather difficult piece of work given the original's condition.  Especially good to see the facial detail you've all been able to bring out. 

Carol I notice you post yours with the strap line - ''PLEASE DO NOT USE MY RESTORES WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION - THANK YOU'' - may I take it that I do have your permission to pass this around the family?

AND if anybody else out there would care to oblige me with their take on this image I'd be most exceedingly obliged.

Hi Roger....Please feel free to pass on the restored version to your family as you wish....It's your photo 
The message refers to other restorers to request my permission if they want to use any restores carried out by me for their own use.
There was, at one time a problem with people using the work of others and passing it off as their own without acknowledgement or permission.
