Hi lindyloo1970

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

This is a forum for finding our ancestors, not reconnecting with missing relatives, and we have a 'no living people' policy here.

If you believe he is still alive, you'll need to edit your topic to remove his name or the moderators will do it for you.

Maybe someone will come along with some hints and tips in addition to what we have here

Do you know which team(s) he played for?

And was he Scottish or Canadian?

I have links to the ice-hockey world, and can ask around - but I need a bit more information! ;D

Hi lindyloo1970

I see the name listed on the database of the Society for International Hockey Research.

However, there is a $30 membership fee.

Hi,

This might be barking up the wrong tree... but I found a notice from April 1949 about Scotland's National Hockey Championship between the Dunferlane Dunfermline Vikings and the Falkirk Lions.  The games were to take place on May 2-4 1949.  They mention the team rosters... MANY of the players are Canadian!!  Bob Hannigan of Schumacher is on the Dunferlane Dunfermline team.   Could this be your man?  Schumacher is in Northern Ontario (near Timmins, I think), so not in Saskatchewan.

If this is your guy, there is a wedding announcement in South Porcupine, 1951 for a M M McLellan to R J Hannigan (won't post their names in case they are living).  Mr Hannigan is the son of Mr and Mrs William Hannigan of Schumacher.  One of the ushers is Bob Hannigan.

Here is a GOrd Hannigan of Schumacher, hockey player.  Perhaps a relative

Ray Hannigan of Schumacher
http://www.legendsofhockey.net/LegendsOfHockey/jsp/SearchPlayer.jsp?player=12844
http://www.hockeyheritagenorth.ca/h/243-ray-hannigan.html

(see marriage announcement above :))

Here is another brother Pat
http://www.hockeyheritagenorth.ca/h/242-Pat-Hannigan.html

So, there is a Bob Hannigan connected to this hockey family (see marriage announcement information)... who played in Dunferlane Dunfermline in the late 1940s.  HMMM ??? ???  I don't see a mention of him in the Hockey North site.   :'(

That would be Dunfermline Vikings!

Dunfermline is in Fife, and not in South Lanarkshire.
In Fact I can't find any ice-hockey teams in South Lanarkshire at all! ;D

For the 1947-48 season the Scottish National League was contested in two divisions - East and West, and therefore, there were two champions that year. Teams playing in the league between 1946 and 1954 were Ayr Raiders, Dundee Rockets, Dundee Tigers, Dunfermline Vikings, Edinburgh Royals, Falkirk Lions, Fife Flyers, Glasgow Bruins, Glasgow Mohawks, Paisley Pirates and Perth Panthers.
