Hi Roots Chatters,  :)

Could any kind person take a look at the census record for my Burton ancestors? I am interested  in deciphering the entry of Emily Burton-dau-10 and what the following column states ie the Rank, Profession, or occupation column.  ???  ???

1881 Census-Bucks-Fenny Stratford-Burton Family-George and Elizabeth etc living Aylesbury St.

RG11/1480/ 40 Page 7

Would be so glad and thankful to hear from anyone able to decipher this?

Best Wishes,

Pilgrims Progress  :)

Scholar daughter - Wife    I presume they added daughter because wife was added by mistake and crossed out

Hi Kay,  :)

Oh dear - you may be right. I had begun to believe what the record stated was -scholar "daughter of wife". This child was conceived 5 months before her parents married. As the child was my Gt Grandmother the implications of "daughter of wife" are substantial in that she may not be a Burton after all.

Perhaps the enumerator was tired on the day - there are certainly many errors made on censuses.

I think we can do without the intrigue and hushed whispers in the family if it means we are researching the correct surname. But if you don't mind could we keep this query going a little longer to see what other rootschatters think ??

Many, many thanks for your prompt reply,

Kind Regards,
