A recent search in Findmypast has mentioned a John Mellis who joined the 1st Battalion 21st Foot Regiment on July 5, 1800. The reference is WO25 and mentions the Napoleonic Wars.

If he was born about 1782, this would make him 18 at the time of joining. However it appears this regiment was stationed more in the SW of Scotland.

If anyone can shed more light on this I would be most appreciative. I still don't have a birth or death date. Another John Mellis is listed as living in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, but this is not the correct one I am seeking.
