Title: 1861 Census Hayward family
Post by: GWENDOLINE on Thursday 03 March 05 09:33 GMT (UK)
Currently researching the Hayward family via the censuses back to 1871 and wondered if someone could look up the following on 1861 and 1851 censuses to further my research

Stephen Hayward  born 1815 ish
parents William and Mary  dates of birth unknown
married to a Mary previous name unknown
living in Kempsford/Whelford area of Gloucestershire on the previous census info  Particularly interested in William Hayward because this will take me back a further generation.

Hi Gwendoline,  ;D

Kempsford is full of Haywards and they are connected to the Goslings by marriage and there are a lot of Goslings too. Unfortunately I can't see Stephen's parents and Stephen's entry is a bit strange! His name is recorded as Steo and he has the only entry in Kempsford where the relationship to the children is not recorded. I am going to give you all the Haywards as I believe they are the same family. The writing is not the best so where I have a question mark is my best guess!

Steo Hayward, head, mar, 45, Bailiff? Kempsford Glos.
Mary Hayward, wife, 43, Kempsford Glos.

Not sure if the reply I wrote earlier was sent  just in case
thanks so very much for this information which I will sit down with and sort the possibilities from the impossibilities.  Sorry there do seem to be a lot of Haywards in this area and Goslings are connected, not too connected I hope.

After the useful info from  last week about Robert Hayward I have progressed to Stephen Hayward born approx 1795 in Kempsford, Gloucestershire and to his parents William and Mary  Hayward do you have access to early censuses  trying to locate these two in 1851 or 1841 and others in the family.?

Hi Gwendoline,  ;D

you can look at a transcription of the 1851, 1861, and 1871 censuses for Kempsford here -

http://www.rootsweb.com/~cotswold/GLSontheweb.htm

Just scroll past the name index at the beginning and you will see the districts.

There are, as I said before, quite a lot of Haywards in the area.

Sorry, I don't have the 1841 for Kempsford but perhaps another RootsChatter will be able to help you.

Regards
Darcy ;)
