Allan, always hard for people to see new posts like these because they are tagged on to older posts...but what type of info are you looking for on Neil Drysdale?  You have his birth to John and Jane Mcneil.

1871 he is in Armadale https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VBGH-VNL and still there for 1881 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KMVD-XD1

I am trying to find out any thing I can about him. he was unknown until recently. He is supposed to have an older brother Dugald and an older sister Catherine. Parents of the 3 children are though to be James Drysdale and Ann Ferguson, though this is not known for sure but Dugald's death details list James and Ann as his parents names. Any help youd be greatly appreciated.

Something is not quite right with the info somewhere likely.

The Neil that you mentioned b. 1865 in Linlithgowshire is certainly the son of a John Drysdale and Jane McNeil https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQFW-F4F  This Neil had siblings but not the ones you mention. His siblings look to be David, Margaret, Elizabeth and Jessie.

With possible siblings to the Neil you are looking for called Dugald and Catherine, there is this 1861 census entry:

James Ferguson 71 pauper b. Kilchoman
Mary Ferguson 67 b. Kilchoman
Dugald Drysdale 7 grandchild b. Kilchoman
Catherine Drysdale 4 grandchild b. Kilchoman
Mary Mccallum 3 grandchild b. Kilchoman

Address: Monenduich, Kilchoman, Argyllshire

Maybe parents of the Drysdale grandchildren weren't married. Not unusual to see illegitimate children going by the surname of their reputed father. There is this possible birth entry for Catherine https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY5B-SXW and Dugald https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTJQ-WMN

Can't see how how a Neil connects to this family though. By 1871, Dugald is working away from the home of his grandparents, at the farm of an Angus McNeil in Colonsay and Oronsay.

What occupation was given for James Drysdale in son Dugald's marriage or death registrations?

Cannot see so far a James Drysdale with an Argyll connection in either the 1851 or 1861 censuses in trying to see anything obvious for him.

I thought this might be Ann Ferguson with family in 1841:

James Ferguson 50 ag. lab.
Mary Ferguson 40
Ann Ferguson 13 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTJ3-VXJ
Mary Ferguson 4 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTJ3-YF2

Address: Carnduncan, Kilchoman

Age a little out on the possible birth for Ann. Nanny and Ann are variants, see http://www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=nanny

Other possible Ferguson children to these parents:

Neil 1824 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTJQ-45H
Neil 1830 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYW4-WXW (likely first died and name reused)
Catherine 1842 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY3C-S2Q

See now the possible Neil reference. Two entries showing for his birth. This sometimes happens when a birth took place away from mother/parents usual residence:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY15-T6X
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQQX-R95

You would need to confirm that this the same Ann Ferguson, mother to Dugald and Catherine.

Monica,

Thank you so much for you help.

I am going to assume that the Neil Ferguson born 12 Jun 1865 in Portnahaven is the one I am after.

You have been a great help.

On Dugald's death details It only shows the first names of his parents as James and Ann.

I will continue digging.

Thanks again.
