Hi there. I think the farm you are looking for is Rushiehill Farm rather then Rashiehill. As far as I remember it is lived in now my the family Aitken. There is an archive place in Stirling that I have used on a few occasions and always found what I was looking for. My mum still stays in fri try so I can try and help with any info I'd you are not local. Please let me know. Regards

Thank you Lindaporter for your reply. I found the spelling for Rashiehill on the internet but as you say it's possible that there are other variations. I know that my family lived there sometime between 1919 and the early1930's. I think they rented the farm and it may have been owned by Ross's Dairies but I'm not sure. I did contact the local library but so far they haven't been able to help me. As I stay in Shetland it's difficult for me to visit libraries so any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

The "farm" is noted on the West side of the B822, on the same side road that Provanston farm is situated.

My mother's an Aitken, by chance I'm in the company right now of an uncle whose knowledge of Fintry farming history won't be easily bettered.  He informs me that my great grandfather Robert Aitken took over the tenancy of Rashiehill in 1904 from the McQueens - he died in 1913 and my grandfather, also Robert Aitken, ran the farm until 1922 when it was bought by Charles Ross, who had dairy interests in Glasgow.  Rashiehill was part of the Culcreuch Estate which was broken up in 1922 - Ross bought it at auction, and it remained in the possession of Ross's Dairies until 1955.  Your parents would've worked the dairy for Ross as I understand things.

Thank you TThornton for your reply. I'm trying to do a timeline for where my Grandparents farmed. I know from birth and christening records that they were in Cardross 1914, Tayvalloch 1918/19 and Easterhouse 1921. I wasn't sure if they were at Rashiehill before or after being at Easterhouse. As Ross's dairies only bought the farm in 1922 I now know that my Grandparents were at Fintry after Easterhouse. My guess is that they took over the running of Rashiehill in 1922 when it was bought by Ross's. I would like to find out how long they were at Fintry but not sure how I ca do this! They moved to Arden, Dunbartonshire sometime in the late 1920's or early 1930's. Thank you again for helping.

I'm told that from 1922 one Patrick Gill was at Rashiehill, before the Colquhouns - suggestion is that they were there from mid-20s, 1925/26?

Thank you again TThornton for your help. I contacted Fintry School to ask if there were any school records available but as yet I've not heard back from them. The information you have given me narrows it down a bit. Maybe they were at Easterhouse from about 1921-1925 before moving to Rashiehill. I think they moved to Arden before 1930. If only I had asked my Mum!
