**Completed** Bedwellty-1861 Census-Wild/Clarke
« on: Wednesday 03 February 10 20:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi Members,

I have 2 families who seem to disappear in 1861 and I'm hoping someone will be able to help me please?

The details of my families are:

John Wild born c.1817 in Northumberland - Coal Miner
Barbara Wild born c.1814 in Northumberland
and
Richard Clarke born 1840 in Shropshire - Coal Miner
Barbara Clarke born 1840 in Northumberland

John and Barbara moved to Durham by the 1851 census and I believe they were residing in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire by 1861. I believe this because they were residing in Bedwellty by the 1871 census and their daughter Barbara married Richard Clarke in Bedwellty in 1860. Barbara and Richard Clarke had their first child in 1862.
I am aware that the population of Bedwellty grew enormously around 1860 due to mining, could this explain why they can't be found?

Any information greatly appreciated, Thanks.

more likely that they were in one of the pieces that's missing -

Do you have their address at marriage or at the birth of their first child?

Thanks for the tips, never occurred to me that there would be missing pages! I've got the marriage certificate on order, so will follow up with the address when I have it. Fairly new to researching family history and picking up a lot from Roots Chat. Thanks again!
