Margaret

I will be on the lookout.  I am in the south western U.S., so you may be updating things while I'm still asleep.

Hi Margaret,

Made email contact with Denise to share some more current information that wouldn't be welcome here.  I also, didn't get any notifications of your added posts to this forum.

I'd imagine little has changed in the layout of Killeshandra for the past 100 years, so using google maps to travel the main street from end to end, should jog a few memories.

Looking forward to any remembrances.

Des

Hi Des & Denise,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I checked with my Mum apparently the photo on the google reference is the one for the school. Apparently the school is derelict now and according to a relative of my mother's who still lives in Cavan the school has been up for sale for many years. From the google map provided by Des it looks like there is a petrol station there now. This relative said that there is some sort of preservation order on the site. Interestingly, the relative (my Mum's cousin's wife) who is in her 80s also taught at this school many years ago.

Old cemetry - you are right about it being condemmed, I think my Mum told me that relatives on my Dad's side were buried there.
Des, I didn't get an alert on your last posting until just now, there seems to be a problem with notifications. I have raised this as an issue, but it doesn't seem to happen all the time, so sometimes I miss replies.
Hope this helps

Hi Des & Denise,

On my last posting on this thread when I said that the google map reference was correct  I left out the name of the school, it was the National School, Main Street, Killeshandra.

Hi Margaret,

I found this before and wasn't sure, but looking at it now, it appears to be the same building as we referred to on google maps.

Pictured in better days,

Hi, We have recently undertaken a clean up of the old Killeshandra graveyard and have recorded the memorials therein: PATTON
'In loving memory of John Patton beloved husband of Sarah Patton, died 10th January 1941, aged 77 years - He Giveth his Beloved Sleep'
