Dixton Hadnock

Hi, I have alot of my ancestors
 from this village dating back to the 1851 census. Has Dixton only one parish church and is it still there? has it got a grave yard? I would like to visit the church and see if I can find any of my ancestors buried there.

dixton church seems to be  still there, grade 2* listed, can be seen on google satellite images, it seems to have a small graveyard.
It has been cut off from the rest of the world by a dual carriageway, the A40, the nearby large house is a school.

It is the hadnock bit that worries me, the hadnock area is the other side of the river, but familysearch has transcriptions for dixton newton, if your names are there this is the church you want

Genuki is a wonderful resource for checking on parishes. I don't think Dixton Hadnock had a church. It was in the parish of Dixton Newton

the map of 1882 shows a ferry across the river from alongside Dixton St. Peters church to the "area of Dixton Hadnock" on the other side of the river.

Looks likely for the church but whether you will find any graves of interest I can't say. Would be a nice day out tho' visit symonds yat as well  :)

Dixton Newton is a Herefordshire parish but Monmouthshire electoral district.  The parish extends from near Welsh Newton to Dixton Church, then across the Wye to the Hadnock side where the vicarage was/is hence the ferry.  The parish then takes in the land following the Wye from Hadnock farm to the Monmouth side of the Redbrock to Coleford road, and includes the Kymin (chapel) and Wyesham (church)   Visit the Forest of Dean site for parish records, and I can help pinpoint where they lived if I had more detail  cheers Fred

As a starter, seach for "dixton church" (include the inverted commas "   " as part of search key). From a quick sacon of the results can see plenty of marriages but no funerals/burials.
