Could Hannah be his stepmother instead of his mother? The wording of the Will is pretty clear.

For free- James Quinn born 1872 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F51Y-BBK

This was a ? in my mind before as James & Hannah wed in 1845 yet the ages for sons John & James have them born c 1842 & 1847 (Ireland) no placename but it is a theory I did have but no confirmation yet as I couldn't find births.

From the civil registration index, Hannah Mellon was aged 78 when she died (so born c1818).
John Mellon was aged 80 when he died (so born c1808).

Are you sure about the various family relationships?

NO! I can only be sure of the census records & I have encountered wrong ages with other family members when they've died so the info. on the ages can sometimes be wrong.

I did say on my 1st post (what looks to be my g granduncle) as I need to prove it yet which is what I'm trying to do at the moment so I do understand your questioning.

Hi Aghadowie,

Hannah Tolands will 1896 (John's mother) has her with a farm in Aughafad, Donacavey, Tyrone which she left to her nephew Peter McCarroll of Larnaglare, Tyrone. John Mellon's will mentions a placename Aughalaber (spelling)? in Killetter Brae & I'm curious if the 2 farms were closeby one another?

Aughalaber seems probably Aughalurcher? Is Aughalurcher near Aughafad?

I'll bow out now as I need to go out for the evening.  There are a couple of potential Alice Mellon Tyrone births/baptisms to father John on familysearch, for example to mother Sarah O'Neill and Sarah McGuigan, nothing at all to tie them in at the moment.

BTW, the Michael Quin  / Alice Mellon 1871 marriage took place in Killeter Roman Catholic Church.
