Whinfell Forest Penrith
« on: Monday 06 October 14 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hi, this may seem an unusual request but I've been trying to find out whether there was any historical housing at what is now Whinfell Forest center parcs. I've tried searching histories of Penrith and tried various phrases to search but all I get is center parcs. If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Thanks.

Hi
The area that Centre Parcs Covers is very Close to the Deer Park of The Clifords of Appleby/Brougham/Brough etc
In the Up rising of 1715 the Scottish Army came along that way and it was reported that they took deer
There was a Saw Mill in the area but I've only seen it reffered to as a steam Mill, The older propery is Julian Bower which is just to the east of the park
and just to be pedantict its Westmorland
regards
Westmorland

Hi,

My daughter lives in Penrith and works there too and asked me to look into the history of the site for her as she was interested about the history of the site. It's not family related just history related, I found an article about it which was very interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whinfell_Forest
I didn't realise there was so much history in Penrith. If you know any more about more recent history and whether there were any houses there it would be good.
Thanks :)
