Gerald Walker Crawford
« on: Friday 12 April 13 14:57 BST (UK) »
Gerald Walker Crawford (1868-1942), born in Portobello, Edinburgh, in 1868, he was the second son of David Crawford, a Solicitor (who died between the 1881 and 1891 Censuses), and Catherine Crawford, a School Principal, of 21 Windsor Street, Greenside, Edinburgh. Siblings were Louisa, William, Catherine, Mary, Arthur, Clifford, Jessie and Margaret. He was a Consulting Mechanical Engineer and an Edinburgh City Councillor and JP. Well-known in his day for his musical activities, especially as a composer, he was conductor of several orchestras including, latterly, one of his own.

He served as a Sergeant in the Royal Scots in WW1 and composed a piece of music entitled 'Europa', we believe, at, or as a result of, the Somme. The manuscript is held by the National Library of Scotland.

The Edinburgh's War Project (www.edinburghs-war.ed.ac.uk) is hoping to get the work performed in 2016 with any proceeds going to Homes for Heroes.

We would really be interested if there were any relatives/descendants of his around. He was single when he died, and of his 4 sisters, only one (possibly two) seems to have married.

Thanks for any help.
