***COMPLETED*** Looking for Blumers Terrace, South Shields
« on: Friday 19 September 14 17:03 BST (UK) »
Hi Rootsters,

Still on the search of places in Durham.  This time Blumers Terrace South Shields (a search here only suggests "Blimey Terrace"! LOL).

Also, Greens Terrace, South Shields and Harper Street, South Shields (1900-1920)

Thanks as ever!

You can see Blumers Terrace, if you zoom in, on the 1881 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=436503,568052 Google Street View http://is.gd/YTKiPP

Hi Stan,

Thanks for that, I've been looking at maps all afternoon and couldn't see what it was pointing at but it does look like the bit inbetween.  And do you think Greens Terrace in 1901 is now Greens Place?  It's interesting that it has Green's and not Green and I've just rechecked my docs and it definitely says Terrace not Place.

Now I just need Harper Street!

Thanks again,

Fionaoh

It is Green's Place on the 1881 map and Greens Place on the Street View. Greens Terrace is a different place at the west end see http://is.gd/gsf3O6.

Thanks again,

You can see Harper Street, if you zoom in, on the 1915 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=436241,567775 on the south side of St. Stephen's Church grave yard.

Hi Stan the Map Man,

Many thanks for all your help.  I couldn't zoom a great deal on that map but from the looks of it that area has changed a great deal.  I'm not sure my Grandma would recognise it now (though she was only 7 when she left in 1914 so it would've been a bit hazy anyway!).

I'm off to do a little research about the changes in South Shields and am really looking forward to seeing the actual place.

Many, many thanks again.
