I know its probably a longshot but im wondering would the name change of Andrew from Alexander have anything to do with his christening/conversion to R/C.??
Would he be burning his bridges/cutting his ties from family who it seems may have been C-O-I?

or is it possible that the Priest encouraged him t change his name.??

While checking the registers today in the GRO i noticed a few Alexander Campbell mostly in the Northern Counties, so i wonder would Alexander be seen as a Protestant name??

. . . and it gives George Campbell and Catherine Daly as his parents.

AND you have George Campbell and Alexander Campbell living next door to each other on the GV in Howth.

Pretty conclusive in my eyes that it is one and the same family.

I would be under the presumption that George and Alexander on the GV were brothers.

George had a son called Alexander / Alexander had a son called David

That would make your Alexander of Mabbott Street first cousin to the David Campbell whom stayed in Howth !

Does that make sense ?!

I'll be honest in that I wouldn't get hung up on it ~ sure don't you go by a million different names and pseudonyms  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think the main thing is that YES Alexander Campbell of Howth is of the Howth Stonemason Family !

Hi Grizzly

So, everything confirms that Alexander / Andrew is from Howth.

So, we need to find George Campbell's ranking in the Howth branch !

Tara

Yes Tara, im going back to the GRO tomorrow to see if I can source the marraige cert from 1877..IF i can find that it should give us a clearer picture as it will hopefully give his fathers occupation.

I routed and found nothing for George !

I wondered maybe were his branch on the decline before Alexandrew moved to Dublin City  ???
