Dealtreys in Isle of Man & Bray House Hotel (now the Gresham)
« on: Monday 18 March 13 15:01 GMT (UK) »
Albert R Dealtrey
My Gt Grandad was born abt 1880 in Newington, London, England and died 27 jan 1928 in douglas , isle of man, buried in Douglas buried Cmemtary somewhere.......He also used to run The Colonade Cafe on the Pier. His wife Margaret (Peg) was from Rosslare, they had 3 children Sydney, Kathleen who died of Tb and Eileen. I can't track where Kathleen is buried, she died aged 21 of TB.

Would there be any photos of the cafe or hotel from the 20s? How would I go about finding his grave if it still exists and Kathleen's grave? My grandad Sydney was devastated by the death of his sister, he also contracted TB but was sent to a sanitorium by M&S who he worked for and survived.

I suggested you contact the ManxMuseum last year - was there no success there re photo ?
If it was on pier then this was at the Victoria Terminal - brief description is on www.manxnotebook.com under Douglas - the colonade around this was added just befor WW1 - there was a Victoria cafe there around 1902 (visible in one of the images) maybe this was renamed Colonade cafe - the Museum should have many photos - the old Victoria terminal was demolished in 1961.
re grave - most graves in Douglas Borough Cem have some form of MI - the transcription of these will give the burial plot - again you could try Manx Museum library@mnh.gov.im or possibly look on www.imuseum.im or try asking if someone has bought the IoMFam Hist Soc publication and will do a lookup - eg try http://www.isle-of-man.com/genealogy/messageboard/index.pl/
any thing with a Manx Connection
