What happened to these old photos of Llanuwchllyn?
« on: Friday 17 May 13 23:16 BST (UK) »
I found this fascinating story from last year, 2012. A collection of early photos from Llanuwchllyn, at the end of Lake Bala turned up in an attic. Some of them are superb, and I was particularly interested as some of my Jones and Williams ancestors came from this village.

I completely missed this story at the time and would love to know what happened to the photographs. Does anyone remember this, or know where they ended up?

Mike

Hi Mike

It might be worth contacting Mullocks, the Auctioneers, who're quoted in the article which follows on from the slide show:

Good idea - I'll do it right now.

Thanks

Mike

Great pictures, aren't they? I do hope Edward Jones riding on the donkey is a relative of mine. I know he can't be an ancestor because of the date but I'd like to think he was a cousin of some sort.

I think Gwynedd Council bought the old photographs for their Archives Department

An article on the BBC news website "An album of old photographs  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-18647351 includes the following information:

Edward Jones, on the donkey, was a local man and a chapel elder.

He used a donkey to get about because he was unable to walk properly after an illness in childhood.

Despite this he still managed his farm, and worked as a butcher selling meat at the local market each week.
