Fladbury Taylor family
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 22:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone, it has been over a year since my last post  :o

Okay further research points me in the direction of the township FLADBURY.

Looking for a birth or relatives of:

William Edward Scargill TAYLOR born c1837 in Fladbury (taken from the census)

SCARGILL it seems is a surname that originates from Yorkshire, but this only a guess.
It could be the surname of the mother.
Another clue is the naming pattern of PERHAM in later generations as an ancestral reminder.

William Taylor was not shy of money as he was noted as living on his own means.  He went to boarding school in Cheltenham Gloucestershire, met his wife Frances Sarah Todd and married in Cheltenham 1859.  I suspect from the census that Frances was brought up with a Governess and Cook in South Wales but this is to be investigated.

Look forward to any clues.

Cheers from Wet and Dreary Sydney AUS

Hi Carole
No I haven't his father's name.  I realise that the marriage certificate must be the next step.
But just thought on the off chance that there wouldn't be too many births in Fladbury
I cannot find him on the 1841 census either!

Hi

Yes - I had hoped he would be a bit obvious on the 1841 with at least one of his other christian names recorded but no such luck.  I can see him at boarding school in 1851 and notice he is shown as 16 so b around 1835

Fladbury was in the Pershore registration district and there is a 6yr old James Taylor living in Holy Cross Worcs which was in the Pershore reg district.  Perhaps bear it in mind when you get his marriage cert in case the details match

You need to have a look at the image as there are 2 Taylor families recorded next door to each other.  William Taylor 45 wheelwright and James Taylor 75 carpenter.  William aged 6 is shown under James family group so could be a grandson

Hi Carole

Re William Edward Scargill Taylor

I had a look at the 1851 census as you suggested, it is possible that he is part of this family.

Had a look at 1861/71 and 91 census and his birthyear is back to c1837.
(not sure where he was in 1881 but he may have been in USA at that time)
In the 1891 census he was living at South Hampton. From here I found reference
to his death in South Hampton in Mar qtr of 1892.

After using all online resources I have now ordered the marriage certificate online with GRO.

So will be back online in a few weeks to delve into his past.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Jim :o

Thank you for your information.  I guess the submission you are referring to is  from the LDS site.
I had been looking on the LDS site for years but such a common name, I gave up.
Just visited the site and keyed in Scargill (first name) and Taylor but did not get a result.
Keyed in the parents and up came his name.  How elusive?
Can I ask how you stumbled upon old William? and if there is a reference or a contact?

Much appreciated.....

Cheers :)

Hi Rosalie, From The LDS site.
I just searched for a William Taylor born 1835, + or - 2 years in Worcestershire. There are other children also recorded under the same parents.

Source Information, Batch Number, 7034323

Thanks Jim

I suppose I was looking at 1837.  However the submission may have been recent.  Would be nice if the year submitted or even a contact.  Will start googling for researchers.

Once again Rootschat members have helped again.

Any Australian lookups I can do pls ask.

Regards
Rosalie
