Hi Patricia  :)

Urr is towards the east of Kirkcudbrightshire in the South West of Scotland:

Dalbeattie is about 6 miles east of Castle Douglas - see www.multimap.co.uk Grid Ref NX833614  or just put Dalbeatttie into the search field.

You might be able to locate the farm by using www.old-maps.co.uk and doing a search for Dalbeattie and then panning around the area.

Added - re finding his wife's name. You could search for a marriage on the IGI www.familysearch.org or you might locate his or her death certificate on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Scottish death certs usually give the spouse's name and also their parents.

Hi Patricia  :)

I've found Isabella's death cert - 21 Sept 1883 at 35 Main St, Dalbeattie. She was 67 yrs and married to James Brown, retired farmer. her parents were Jonathan Beattie, master cooper, dec. and Nicholas, maiden surname Carruthers, dec.

Hi Patricia

Going back to your first post, Isabella's surname was BEATTIE going by the children born post official reg. in 1855:

1. ANN BROWN  Birth: 13 FEB 1856 Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
2. ALEXANDER BROWN Birth: 19 JUN 1858 Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Scotland

These children together with the rest of the family show in Dalbeattie in 1861.

Regards.

Monica
