Was he still in the army in 1912, or did he rejoin in 1914 when WW1 started, have we found his records, I can't remember?

Are the occupations the same on both certificates and do they match him in 1911? You are very lucky that Stockton Registry Office are so good, I'm not sure that every office would give you the information.

none of the occupations i mentioned are named for the father.

Not quite sure what point you're trying to make here, Derek   :-\

Hi jenb,
John's marriage certificate seems to show proudly he was a musician in DLI,
why wouldn't it be the same on birth certificate :-\
other than that it all seems to fit :)

Perhaps in the meantime he had taken up a different trade?

Also, it wasn't necessarily John William who registered the birth: it might have been his wife.

Given that a John William McIntosh and a Milly Emily Peacock married in Feb 1912 in Stockton; and a John William McIntosh was born to a John William McIntosh and an Emily née Peacock in late 1912 in Stockton I  think it's very unlikely to be anyone but the same couple  :D

Did they tell you what it said on the birth certificate? According to his army papers when he enlisted in 1904 he was a joiner.

jenb & groom,

John W Mcintosh attended the Chadwick Memorial school, Glasforth & trained as a joiner
i'm convinced his parents had split up at this time.
jenb i know i sounded a bit down but i beleive John William McIntosh who married Virginia Harbisher is the son of John & Milly McIntosh.

By the way i did ask registry if occupation of the father John W McIntosh was joiner and they said no.

I will be going in for both birth and marriage certificate's after christmas ;)

Hi.
groom & jenb :'(

I went into Stockton this morning and ordered birth certificate & marriage certificate :'(
and i'm left with more questions than answers i think :-[

1st birth certificate child born: 17th Sept. 1912
Name and surname of father:  John William McIntosh.
"               "            mother:  Emily McIntosh. Formerly Peacock.
Occupation of father:  Labourer at gasworks.
Emily McIntosh mother 19 mitre st, Stockton
Child born 32 Bridge rd Stockton on Tees  U.D

Why is father's occupation given as labourer at gasworks & not soldiers
unless!! being in militia 1904 he wasnt called up untill war broke out 1914,
but in 1911 census John W McIntosh is shown as in Colchester { army }

the marriage details
19th Oct 1940  J W Mcintosh 23yrs  bricklayers labourer { adress 101 Dundas st Stockton.
Virginia Harbisher 23yrs General domestic servant { address 3 Myrtle rd. Stockton

John W McIntosh's father shown as Holder-up at shipyard

So again father occupation so different from what i know he did :'(
Think it means more questions than answers :'(

I would think that could well be the answer, perhaps he left the army when he married and just took any job he could get. Having been in the army I would think he would have been one of the first to volunteer or be called up in 1914.

Derek my opinion (for what it's worth) is that this has got to be the right couple.
