Great Tew:

Arnold Alfred Hathaway baptised 30 October 1887 s/o William & Dinah, police constable
Elsie Hathaway baptised 3 November 1889 d/o William & Dinah                "        "
Janette Hathaway baptised - no date 1891 d/o William & Ellen                  "        "
Hilda Margaret Hathaway baptised 2 October 1892 d/o William & Ellen       "        "

Don't know what the Dinah / Ellen is all about.  No burial record for a Dinah Hathaway post Elsie's baptism pre Janette's baptism.  No marriage for William to Ellen.

No marriage for William & Dinah

No burial for Janette or Janet in 1896 or thereabouts in Great Tew.

There is a burial of Herbert William Hathaway 7 June 1887 aged 10 months; no baptism for him in Great Tew.

Sorry I don't have the parish records for Steeple Barton.  Its records are on the OFHS cd WOD02, might be worth buying that if no-one else has them.

Thank you Artifis,

All records I have found give the name Dinah accept the 1891 census where she is referred to as Ellen, which ties in with the 1891 baptism maybe it was nickname! it's also strange that Janet Florence was baptised as Janette Hathaway.

Dinah Mobbs married William Hathaway in 1885 North Ashton so it is possible that Herbert William may have been their first child. Thanks again Artifis.

Parish records for their marriage at North Aston:

5 May 1885  William Hathaway, bach, Policeman of Deddington, father deceased
Dinah Mobbs, spin, of North Aston, father Robert labourer
Witnesses:  George and Sarah Ann Mobbs, presumably Dinah's siblings.

Baptism at North Aston:

26 September 1881  Herbert William s/o William & Dinah of Deddington.  Sad they lost their first born but not that unusual for the times.

Artifis,

Thank you again.

I was checking BMD and found Herbert William birth registered at Woodstock (North Ashton is in that district) and William's job took him to Great Tew where the death is registered in Chipping Norton registration district.

Artifis,

I have a birth registered for Sarah Mobbs and a death registered for Sarah Ann Mobbs in 1856 Woodstock - correct district for North Ashton. But I also have found a Sarah Ann Mobbs birth registered 1860 North Ashton was she also a d/o Robert & Hannah Mobbs?

I also have a Elizabeth born 1848 and Ruth born 1862 who may also be siblings of Dinah.

If have any details on these it would be appreciated.

Yes Sarah Ann was d/o Robert & Hannah - forgot to put the dittos in.   :-\

I'll have a look for the other people at North Aston, will probably be tomorrow as it's my wife's birthday today so lots on.

Elizabeth baptised 12 November 1848 d/o Robert & Hannah, labourer
Ruth baptised 11 January 1863 d/o Robert & Hannah, labourer

No other siblings in North Aston.

There is another Mobbs family having children baptised at the same time, James & Rachel, farmer - probably related to Robert - I will look further back if you want to see if there's any connection?
