Hello,

William Cox DAVIS born about 1873 Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, England, would appreciate help on finding his wife and any children.

There is a possible marriage on Freebmd in 1909 (did you not check there first?) In Ross reg district, only one bride indexed as being on same page - Daisy Hancocks

1911 look ups are not allowed, but if you then check 1911 for him hopefully it will confirm if that marriage was the right William Cox Davis, and show any children born pre 1911
Then, the birth indexes after 1911 give mothers maiden name, so having esteblished his wifes name from the 1909 marriage and 1911 census, you should be able to see if any more children were born after 1911 to the couple.

Thank you lizdb, I didn't give it a thought to check Freebmd in 1909, I got so wrapped up looking for info in other sites.

I was given a marriage for William to Elizabeth GRIFFIN 1909 but I wasn't sure if it was correct, I will check into Freebmd and see what I can come across there.....appreciate your time and help.

as Lizdb has stated ...this has to be your William Cox Davis marriage

cannot find any children on any site for them as Davis / Hancocks
but   www.freebmd.org.uk has
Davis / Hancox = 9 children in the Birmingham area...1912 to 1930 if this is your William and Daisy - they probably had at least one more child 1909-1911

So it looks like there may have been a transcription error.
Daisy Hancocks marriage was registered Hereford not Ross.

Added: I have looked at a clearer copy of the original index (JPG from Freebmd) and Elizabeths page number is definitely 1030.

1901 she is living with her Parents and Siblings in Ross, Herefordshire
Ist Child of William/Elizabeth was;
Birth Reg, March 1912, Ross, 6a 829, Davis, Alfred W, Mothers maiden name- Griffin
Cant find any others in Herefordshire to them. Other likely ones elsewhere in England though on FreeBMD

Thank you to each and everyone for the info you have found for me, I do have all the siblings for William Cox Davis but on checking with info received I have double checked to make sure it is right.

Still confused on the wife for William I have been given Hancox (cks) and Griffin so I am assuming the Griffin is the correct one,......all help appreciated with thanks.
