Portsea Marriage -1854
« on: Sunday 15 June 14 09:35 BST (UK) »
Hello, I  am  looking for  information  concerning the  following  marriage,  which took  place  at  ST  MARY'S  church Portsea,  9th  July  1854  between  John  Middleton  Jewett  and  Margaret  Pearce.  I know that  Margaret's  father  was  Edward  a  clockmaker. My  particular  interest  is  to who  the  witnesses  to  this  marriage  were  and  if it  also  mentions  if  Edward  was deceased.  Would  much  appreciate  any  help.  THANK  YOU.

You may have to buy the marriage certificate or visit the Hampshire Archives to find out that information.

There are some transcriptions for St Mary, Portsea on Knightroots

but not for the year you are looking for. They are not listed on freeREG.

Hi Diane. I found the information you were looking for, but some of it was difficult to read so here goes:- John Middleton Jewett a seaman on HMS Southsea? father Joseph Jewett a printer married Margaret Elizabeth Pearce whose father was Gerard Pearce a watch maker. The witnesses were Mary Kersey and John Ginger?. I looked in the next edition of the local paper but they were too lowly for a mention I'm afraid.
I took a copy but don't think it will download here so if you PM me an email address I'll forward it to you and you may be better able to decipher it.

Thank  you  for  taking the  time  to  reply,  Ellen  was John's  second  wife, whom  he  married  only  a  few  months  after  Margaret  tragically  died.  Both wives  died  terribly  young.  He  then  took a  third  wife.  When  his  first  wife died,  Margaret  and  john  were  parents  to  a  6  year  old  with the  wonderful  name  of  Joseph  Edward  Middleton  Jewett. I've failed  to  find  him  sadly. ===  THANK  YOU==DIANE
