Alice Mary Indcox born in Wales married a John Burnett possibly in brighton in circa 1879. They had a child Minnie Burnett.  John Burnett must have died almost immediately as I cannot see  why she lived alone with her child in Brighton. Alice then married my grandfather in Manhattan NY in 1884 James alfred body. Alice died in hove in 1902 age 43.
Has anyone any information on John Burnett. It is possible that Alice Mary took her own life, but I assume records are not kept for that

Was it because Alice already had a child. My grandfather belonged to a farming family in Kent. He played in the 2nd and 3rd official Rugby union internationals against scotland. Before this he and 3 others started the very famous GYPSIES London based club. He was working for a London shipping company. My cousin who is now dead told me she possibly took her own life at the age of 42 in 55 Brunswick place Hove. The ingredients might have been there, as they had 2 further children born in Winnipeg and 7 in Hove making 10 in all. She somehow lost her first love almost immediately and my grandfather was 14 years older than her. They had 5 servants when she died, so it could not have been for lack of help with the children or housework although it was 4 storey's and a basement. i just cannot find the marriage or death of John Burnett or marriage?

Sorry he went to Brighton to open a brewery and played for Brighton Waps Football club (rugby), so that is how they must have met

I wonder if John vanished or they separated somehow and she remarried overseas to hide some of the difficulties?

Do you have Minnie's birth certificate? What occupation/information is given for her father John Burnett? Does she call herself a widow on her second marriage certificate?

Since she only used the surname Burnett around that 1881 time it is likely it was a defacto to relationship.

Maybe  Alice and John Burnett weren't married.  That would explain why you can't find a marriage record and why she married in New York under her maiden name.
