Look up request- William Henry RUNDLE Born c1885 Plymouth

Hi

I wonder if anyone can assist me in finding the birth of William Henry RUNDLE whom was born approx 1885 in Plymouth Devon. There are a number of William RUNDLE's born around that time, and so to order all of the GRO would be prohibitive.  His father was William Henry RUNDLE also with wife called Selina, the former born in Plymouth and latter it appears to be Polruan Cornwall. Would parish records after 1837 show these details?

Also I am stuck on Selina RUNDLE, it is possible her maiden name was Tamlin (although T looks like J ) on birth certificate of Walter RUNDLE (William jnr brother whom was born 17 June 1883)

Any assistance would in solving this for me would be much appreciated.

Hi on the 1871 Census is a Selina TOMLIN aged 20 b Polruan, working as a Maid of all work for Francis and Susan Prout at Bedford Place, Charles, Portsmouth

A William Henry RUNDLE married a Selina ELLIOT Sept qtr 1879 East Stonehouse vol 5b page 524.
An Ann Selena ELLIOT was baptised at Fowey 12 Feb 1854, dau of Elizabeth Anne Elliot (single woman)of the Poor House.

1851 baptism of Selina Tomlin, parish Lanteglos by Fowey, parents William and Charlotte, father Mariner, residence Polruan:

Her dob is noted as 6 Feb 1848. She is in the 1861 census in Lanteglos, wrongly identified at Anc'y as daughter of a Hocken couple. Anc'y has pulled its usual trick: where a household has a woman identified as "wife" whose husband is not at home, it has assigned her and her children to the nearest male head of household. At least this time it didn't strip them of their surnames as it did througout the 1891 census: Selina is a daughter of Charlotte Tomlin.

But DOB's Ann Selena Elliot certainly looks more likely.

Perhaps she went by a stepfather's name and used it for all but the most official purposes (marriage), or knew that her father's surname was Tomlin?

I might suspect that mother Elizabeth Ann Elliot married Charles Jay in 1863 in Lanteglos-by-Fowey:

Thanks for the various posts. I believe that Polruan is a Parish of Lanteglos by Fowey.

In terms of William Henry RUNDLE in 1911 census he is aged 60 and shown as married for 37 years so approx 1874. I still haven't definitely found the marriage. So still not definitely sure she is Selina Tomlin or Ann Selena Elliot as suggested. Whilst my Nan's dad was William Henry RUNDLE 1885 and she new his brother Walter, there appears to be no recollection of Laura & Annie? Although their names are not 100% clear on 1891 census. I can't any records of the family in 1881 census which might help clarify. Interestingly, albeit a coincidence I did find birth of Tamlin, Selina Rundell 1873 December Births East Stonehouse Devon.

I wonder if anyone can assist further in helping me unscramble the facts.

-- so that one seems pretty solid. Married Jun Q 1908 Bodmin

-- does look like a pre-marriage birth to William and Selina ...

Worth noting that Selina Tomlin (or Tamlin) (the one born 1848) is not accounted for in marriages/deaths.

I just wonder whether perhaps this is more likely to be that this Laura as transcribed is actually Louisa see baptism record below. In 1891 census William is under Henry his 2nd name. This would match more the census record but then cause some doubt as being the same as  the family in Lanteglos by Camelford. There is a baptism which  show's
